Caregiver Training in San Diego
Training that builds confidence, skill, and compassionate care.
At All Heart Home Care, exceptional care begins with exceptional preparation. Every caregiver receives foundational caregiver training in San Diego focused on safety, communication, and essential home-care skills. When a client needs Alzheimer’s or dementia support, the caregivers matched to them receive additional training, including essentiALZ® and CARES® dementia certification.
Through ongoing nurse-led caregiver training, hands-on coaching, and case-specific instruction, we ensure each caregiver is fully equipped to support your loved one with confidence, skill, and compassion.
To support this approach, every caregiver receives layered, practical training designed around the needs of the clients we serve. Below is an overview of the core training programs we provide.
SPECIALIZED CARE EDUCATION
Alzheimer's & Dementia Training
Clients living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia require specialized support to remain safe, comfortable, and connected at home.
Every caregiver at All Heart Home Care who provides dementia care completes Alzheimer’s Association essentiALZ® certification — the nationally recognized gold standard in dementia education.
This training prepares caregivers to respond calmly, understand cognitive changes, and provide person-centered care that honors dignity and reduces distress. Our team is uniquely qualified to deliver the same level of care you would provide if you could be there yourself.
The CARES® Dementia Basics and Dementia-Related Behavior programs, both certified by the Alzheimer’s Association, give our caregivers real-world tools to support individuals at any stage of cognitive decline. The program is also recommended by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The CARES Dementia Basics program focuses on:
- Patient-centered dementia care
- Recognizing cognitive changes as dementia progresses
- Understanding dementia-related behaviors as communication
These methods help caregivers respond with patience, clarity, and empathy — even during challenging moments.
C.A.R.E.S. is an acronym for:
- Connect with the Patient
- Assess Behavior
- Respond Appropriately
- Evaluate Which Care Methods Work
- Share with Other Caregivers
This easy-to-remember framework guides consistent, compassionate care.
Dementia-Related Behavior Training teaches caregivers to:
- Understand “challenging” behaviors through the lens of fear, confusion, or unmet needs
- Provide thoughtful, calming responses to agitation, wandering, anxiety, or resistance
- Strengthen the values and communication skills needed for excellent dementia care

WHY TRAINING MATTERS
What certified training means for your family.
Caregiver training isn’t a “nice to have.” For families navigating Alzheimer’s or dementia, it’s the difference between guessing and knowing. Every certification we require — essentiALZ®, CARES®, and Caregiver Training University — is designed to create safer homes, calmer moments, and better days.
Safer care at home
Certified caregivers know how to prevent falls, recognize early warning signs, and respond correctly in emergencies. That means fewer crises, faster support when something changes, and a home that feels secure again.
Better communication
Dementia changes how your loved one expresses needs. Our caregivers are trained to connect with patience, interpret behavior as communication, and respond in ways that reduce fear and protect dignity.
More consistency, less stress
Because every All Heart caregiver follows the same CARES-based approach, your loved one experiences steady care — even if different team members are involved. Consistency lowers agitation and helps families feel confident stepping away.
All Heart Home Care is committed to providing the highest level of home care to San Diego families facing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. We strive for 100% satisfaction by offering caregivers who are trained, certified, and supported by nurse-led oversight.
To ensure your loved one receives exceptional care, our nurses perform surprise home visits and provide ongoing coaching when needed. This helps us maintain the compassionate, high-quality care your family expects — and deserves.
Common questions San Diego families ask about our caregiver training.
Are your caregivers Alzheimer’s Association certified?
Yes. Every caregiver who provides Alzheimer’s or dementia care completes Alzheimer’s Association essentiALZ® certification, plus CARES® Dementia Basics and Dementia-Related Behavior training. This ensures evidence-based, person-centered dementia care in the home.
What is essentiALZ certification?
essentiALZ® is the Alzheimer’s Association’s professional dementia training and certification program. It teaches caregivers how dementia affects cognition and behavior, and how to support clients with calm, skilled, person-first care.
Do caregivers receive training beyond online certifications?
They do. In addition to essential certifications, our agency nurses provide hands-on, client-specific training — including safe transfers, mobility support, dementia behavior strategies, and care plan implementation before the first shift.
How often do caregivers get retrained?
All caregivers complete annual refresher training, ongoing skills reviews, and nurse-led coaching. Dementia care evolves, and we keep our team current and confident.
How is All Heart’s caregiver training different from other San Diego agencies?
Many agencies provide basic orientation. We require essentiALZ®, CARES® programs, Caregiver Training University certification, and continuous nurse-led development. It’s a deeper training stack designed specifically for Alzheimer’s and dementia care at home.
What if my loved one has a complex condition (stroke recovery, Parkinson’s dementia, mobility issues)?
Our nurses tailor training to your loved one’s situation. We prepare caregivers for specific transfers, routines, and safety needs inside your home — so care starts smoothly and stays consistent.
